    Dear Karla,

with very-very warm greetings from Hungary, we would like to call you upon to participate via internet in our new-media performance next week.

Our non-profit ‘actionist’ group, with members of various interests in applied arts, new-media, or even sciences (me – Zoltán – I am a biologist), regularly organizes performances where different phenomena of the human perception and behavior are explored – and exploited – in an interactive, mostly astonishingly surreal, eye-opening manner.

In our following, approx. one hour, 8-9 p. m. (5-6 p. m. in São Paulo), movement we are going to analyze the associations, expectations, etc. related to the commonplace ‘ocean feeling’ therefore we would like to kindly ask somebody with similar interests to take part via Skype connection in this experimental project.

For the sake of the illusion an installation of sand, artificial seawater, spotlights, ventilators, etc. will be built up in one of the studios in the university.
The visitors should be verbally encouraged to touch these materials, stand in the way of light, feel the ‘artificial’ wind, etc. by a performer who is nearer to the ocean in a geographical sense, and very far from Hungary at the same time, but who is also touching, playing with the same materials – e. g. a handful of sand, a glass of salty water – in his or her own home, sitting at his or her own table, in the midst of a big city – as even São Paulo is.
(The performer should e. g. speak the names of the materials out several times; analyze them, their consistency, texture; speak about the sea, horizon, the sunlight; make free associations about these phenomena etc., as if he or she were walking and meditating on the seashore near São Paulo – strictly without revealing his or her exact location.)
Throughout the performance we would like to facilitate the identification of the visitors with this performer, and awaken a false belief about his or her real perception, whose exact location, hoverer, will have been hidden until the very last minutes of the event when the performer should also show him- or herself in the camera face to face.

Above the conceptual issues (wide distances in space, the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean, etc.) as real admirers of the ‘orbis latinus’ we would be extremely happy to organize a performance connecting Latin-America with a small new-media studio in Budapest.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

    With kind regards,

Tóni BODÓCZKY – director, professor of Media Design (),

Panna Pálma PUSZTAFI – visual artist & designer (),

Gabriella VÁROSI – art historian, Spanish/(Portuguese) correspondent (), and

    Zoltán KORTSMÁROS – director, English/German correspondent ()
